What needed to be done?
South32 owns and operates Cannington, one of the world’s largest silver and lead mines. Cannington is 200 kilometres south-east of Mount Isa – it’s a seriously remote, fully self-contained community with its own air strip. Sourcing FIFOs to work in the mines had become more difficult, so South32 came to NDT to produce a recruitment video. The objective was to give prospective employees an idea of what life at Cannington is like, highlighting the benefits and facilities they may not be aware of.
What we did
The Nick team flew into Cannington to film a real, young miner, showing what a day in his life at the mine was like. From breakfast in the canteen to putting on our PPE and jumping into massive trucks in 40º heat, we lived and breathed Cannington. With the help of other employees, from admin to underground miners, we captured the genuine Cannington experience.
South32 made the top 10 in a list of the best workplaces in Australia for new dads, being recognised for their flexible family care options, promoting a healthy work-life balance for families. Other companies that made the list include Telstra, Medibank Private, QBE, Mirvac and the ASX. The video was part of the campaign to highlight a better lifestyle that was available to FIFOs, so we’re proud of the part we played.
