What needed to be done?
The 2018 Brisbane Comedy Festival needed a visual concept that was as funny and interesting as the festival itself. And what says comedy more than cartoon characters? The characters needed to embody the growing brand and personality of the Brisbane Comedy Festival and associate it with having a good time. The Brisbane Powerhouse gave us a super comprehensive and entertaining lowdown of their three main target audiences and all we had to do was bring them to life.
What we did
We had two main jobs. The first was to create the characters and animate them. The second was to build a custom WordPress website, complete with an intelligent artist / venue / date sorting system, to house them. We spent hours drawing, erasing and drawing some more until each character was perfect. The result was the creation of Blue, Red and Green, three characters of different ages, genders, backgrounds and interests who, at the end of the day, all just want to have a good laugh.
The Brisbane Comedy Festival has grown in both attendance numbers and reputation with the NDT creative concept being used for three years running.
