Into the Adbyss
I’m Indy and I am an Account Coordinator and the newest non-suit-wearing ‘suit’ at Nick Did This. At 23 years old this is my first graduate role, which is both terrifying and exciting. I’m four weeks deep into the advertising industry and have experienced many things, most notably a marked increase in caffeine intake.
Coming from a family of lawyers and doctors I can tell you that advertising was a career I didn’t know a lot about. Unfortunately, ‘Account Coordinator’ just doesn’t have the same ring to it as astronaut or firefighter under the ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’ banner.
There are no boardroom themed birthday parties or general manager action figures. Although, Lisa O’Donahoo would look great in spandex. If I’m being honest, when I finished school to study business/arts I chose an advertising major because the classes sounded like the least doctory, lawyery thing I could do – they actually sounded like fun. Fast forward to 2019 and I’m unbelievably happy to be a part of the Nick family.
My first month has been a whirlwind and much more hands on than I anticipated. On my very first day I was taken along to observe a client meeting, with real clients! I still can’t believe they let me do that. Slowly, my search of acronyms in google has been decreasing each day, but there is so much more to learn. I’m really lucky to be working with an account service team with such diverse experience and a creative department that blows my lawyery/doctory childhood mind away. The most satisfying aspect of the job so far, apart from the office dog pats, has been working on a project and seeing it through the different stages of development and now, almost, to its completion. It’s not all fun and games here. The team works very hard to deliver outstanding results for clients which is why I’m proud to call myself a Nickster.
Being an Account Coordinator at Nick Did This has already exposed me to so many things about the advertising industry in a short amount of time, and I’m excited to continue working at such a dynamic, successful and fun agency! I am yet to be worthy of Betty the office dog’s famous face hugs (it’s a thing) – but I’m working on it.
